COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCE AND HUMAN SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS


The College of Health Science and Human Services 2008-09 scholarship application will be available for pick-up beginning January 7, 2008 at 1100 Health Science and Human Services Building. Students may also print a copy by going to http://www.utoledo.edu/hshs/student_services/pdfs/Scholarship_Application.pdf.  Application deadline is March 21, 2008.  Questions may be directed to the Office of Student Services at 419.530-5360.

Note:  All need-based scholarships require that a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) be on file by April 1.  Students may complete the FAFSA on the web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov  or students may contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at 419.530.8700.  The University of Toledo school code for completing the FAFSA is 003131.  Information provided on each scholarship is subject to change.


General

Academy of Medicine of Toledo & Lucas County Alliance Scholarship

For students enrolled in the health care field who have completed one full year of study in that field. Recipient must demonstrate financial need.

 

Flower Hospital Guild Scholarship

Scholarship for second, third, or fourth-year students majoring in a health care field (may be enrolled in a two or four-year degree program).  Applicants may be full-time or part-time.  Consideration will be given to students involved in campus activities and employment.  A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.  Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filed for current year.  Scholarship is non-renewable but previous applicants may reapply.

 

Sy Mah Memorial Scholarship
 
Scholarship for a full-time student with at least a sophomore standing at The University of Toledo who expresses a sincere joy for running by participating in marathons or exercise routines.  This scholarship is not for professional athletes unless they meet the requirements of an avid social runner.  Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  First preference is given to students majoring in a Bachelor of Science program in exercise science.  Second preference will be given to students in the division of health.  Third preference will be given to all other majors in Health Science and Human Service.  Students enrolled outside of Health Science and Human Service will be considered if they meet all other criteria.

 

Timothy and Susan Pontius Fund

Scholarship for junior or senior level respiratory care students with a 3.2 or higher GPA, who demonstrate involvement in the American Association of Respiratory Care. Not based on financial need. May be renewable, based on the recommendation of the Health Science and Human Service Scholarship Committee.

 

Professor William D. & Fae E. Scott Memorial

Scholarships awarded to freshmen based on need and merit.

 

Tyner Scholarship

Scholarship for a graduate student in the College of Health Science and Human Service who demonstrates an interest in advancing the understanding of the causes of autism, developing and/or discovering a cure for autism, and care of an autistic person.  Must have a 3.0 GPA. Not based on financial need. 


Cardiovascular Technology

 
G. Norb Wambold Memorial Cardiovascular Scholarship
 

Scholarship for students in the College of Health Science and Human Service, with first preference being given to associate degree students in cardiovascular technology or Bachelor of Science in cardiovascular technology (if such a program/major should be established). Second preference should be given to Bachelor of Science students with a concentration in cardiovascular technology. Recipients must be full-time students entering their second year of study in the cardiovascular curriculum, in either non-invasive cardiology or non-invasive peripheral vascular. They must have a GPA of  3.0 or higher.  This scholarship is not automatically renewable however, previous awardees are eligible and may reapply.

 


Criminal Justice

William Delaney Jr. Memorial Scholarship

For non-traditional students or employees and children of employees of Lucas County Sheriff's Department who are pursuing degrees in corrections or criminal justice. For full-time or part-time students.

 

Mr. & Mrs. H. Jerry Sawicki Jr. Fund

For undergraduate students in the College of Health Science and Human Service majoring in Criminal Justice. Must demonstrate financial need and maintain a 3.3 GPA.

 

Tapestry Scholarship

The Tapestry Scholarship is offered and awarded by the African-American employees of the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center.  It is available to entering freshmen and continuing UT students who will be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students.  To be considered for this need-based scholarship, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid. First preference will be given to students majoring in criminal justice, social work or sociology.

Exercise Science

Thomas A. Hogan Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship for sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in geology or exercise science who has maintained a 3.0 minimum GPA and who holds a part-time job.  Awarded in alternating years by the Department of Earth, Ecology, and Environmental Sciences or by the College of Health Science and Human Service. Check with respective college.


Law Enforcement Technology

Denise Ardoyno Memorial Scholarship

For students who are sophomores or higher majoring in Criminal Justice. Must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher and demonstrate financial need. Non-renewable. 


Paralegal Studies

Paralegal Association of Northwest Ohio (PANO) Scholarship

Scholarship for full-time or part-time student in one of The University of Toledo paralegal studies programs. Recipients must have completed a minimum of nine semester hours (excluding development courses) in the UT paralegal studies program. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Recipients must complete and fulfill all scholarship application and eligibility requirements as specified by the PANO scholarship packet that can be obtained from the Director of the UT paralegal studies program.

Newton C. Rochte Endowed Scholarship

For full-time or part-time students pursuing a degree or transcripted certificate program at The University of Toledo's College of Health Science and Human Service. Recipients must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Recipients shall have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Respiratory Care

Harold R. Stevens, M.D. Scholarship

For sophomores in the Respiratory Care program matriculating into the baccalaureate Respiratory Care program in the Health Science and Human Service. Candidates shall maintain a 3.25 GPA and have demonstrated commitment to volunteer work that will benefit cardiopulmonary patients. Candidates shall also be students who are members in good standing with the American Association for Respiratory Care. Scholarship is nonrefundable and can only be applied toward tuition, fees and books. Current recipients must reapply each year. 


Social Work

Tapestry Scholarship
